I hold a Master’s degree in Screenwriting and Research from The London Institute, and I have taught screenwriting, creative writing, and drama for undergraduate and postgraduate students at institutions across the UK for over two decades. As a panel tutor for the University of Cambridge, I specialise in writing for performance, working closely with students to develop their scripts for screen, stage, and radio. I’m also a former Director of Postgraduate Studies at Raindance, where I led courses in filmmaking and creative writing. In this capacity, I developed curricula, managed academic staff, and mentored students through the intricacies of narrative development and industry expectations.

As a screenwriter, I’ve worked on a range of high-profile projects, including writing for EON Productions and storylining for Channel 5’s Family Affairs. My industry experience has provided me with a deep understanding of the storytelling landscape, and I bring this insight to my mentoring practice. I’m passionate about helping writers refine their scripts while maintaining the originality and authenticity of their voice.

In my mentorship sessions, I offer a supportive, collaborative environment where writers are encouraged to explore bold ideas, overcome creative challenges, and refine their work into something truly exceptional. Whether you are working on your first script or an experienced writer looking to develop a new project, I provide tailored guidance in areas such as script structure, character development, dialogue, and theme. My aim is to empower writers with the tools and confidence they need to excel in their craft and realise their creative visions.

If you are ready to take your script to the next level, I look forward to working with you!

How I can help

From Concept to Screenplay: How One-to-One Script Mentoring Transforms Your Writing

Screenwriting is a unique and challenging art form, demanding a blend of creativity, technical skill, and industry knowledge. For aspiring scriptwriters, navigating this complex landscape can be daunting. While traditional education routes like an MA in Screenwriting provide valuable insights, one-to-one script mentoring offers a transformative approach tailored to individual needs. Here's how personalised mentoring can elevate your screenwriting from a mere concept to a polished screenplay.

1. Tailored Guidance for Your Unique Voice

One of the most significant advantages of one-to-one script mentoring is the personalised attention you receive. Unlike a classroom setting, where instruction is generalised to cater to a group, personalised mentoring focuses on your unique voice and vision. A script mentor works closely with you to understand your creative goals, strengths, and areas for improvement.

In these sessions, you can delve deep into your story ideas, receive targeted feedback, and refine your narrative style. This bespoke approach ensures that your screenplay retains your distinct voice while adhering to industry standards. The result is a script that stands out for its originality and authenticity.

2. Immediate, Constructive Feedback

In the competitive world of screenwriting, timely and constructive feedback is invaluable. One-to-one script coaching provides immediate, actionable insights that can significantly accelerate your progress. Instead of waiting for a lecturer to grade your assignment or relying on peer reviews, you have a dedicated expert focused solely on your work.

This real-time feedback helps you identify and address issues early in the writing process, whether they pertain to plot structure, character development, dialogue, or pacing. By continuously refining your script based on expert advice, you avoid common pitfalls and enhance the overall quality of your screenplay. This iterative process not only hones your current project but also equips you with skills that benefit your future writing endeavours.

3. Industry Insights and Professional Development

One-to-one script mentoring goes beyond improving your writing skills; it also provides crucial industry insights and professional development. Experienced script mentors often have extensive backgrounds in the film and television industry, offering you a wealth of knowledge about the market, trends, and what producers and directors are looking for.

These sessions can cover a range of topics, from crafting compelling loglines and pitches to understanding the business side of screenwriting. You gain insider tips on navigating the industry, networking effectively, and positioning your script for success. This holistic approach ensures you are not only a better writer but also a more informed and strategic professional, ready to turn your screenplay into a viable production.

Conclusion

While an MA in Screenwriting provides a solid foundation, one-to-one script mentoring offers a uniquely personalised and practical pathway to mastering the craft. By tailoring guidance to your specific needs, providing immediate and constructive feedback, and imparting valuable industry insights, a script mentor can transform your writing from a mere concept to a polished screenplay ready for the screen. Investing in one-to-one mentoring is an investment in your unique voice and your future success as a screenwriter.
